Bounty Hunter Job Description Bail Bondsmen Jumper Warrant Warrants

The Job
* Bondsmen hire bounty hunters to return a fled felon to the court system and thus avoid forfeiture of the bail bond, because the police do not have time to follow up on warrants. Bounty hunters typically receive a percentage of the bond for their work. * Bounty hunters set elaborate traps to catch the convict off guard, using computers and phones to determine the bail jumper's location. * Allowed to employ any means necessary to capture the criminal, bounty hunters only use violence as a last resort carried out in self-defense.
Skills Needed
* Bounty hunters must be street-smart; they need to know the right places and people in order to establish connections that prove valuable in locating criminals. * Good people skills are crucial, because bounty hunting involves extensive interviewing in phone and in person to gain the necessary information. Common sense and intuition are imperative skills in this highly dangerous and unpredictable field. * Reputation is everything in this field, and it is important to build good rapport with the criminal after capture. Bondsmen look to hire bounty hunters with a long history of safety and results, often considering the experiences of captured convicts.
Education
* Experience remains the most popular way to learn, even with a growing number of college certification programs and independent academies. * Some in the field are also private investigators or former law enforcement officials who have refined their skills in prior professions.
While there will always be warrants to be investigated, criminals are not always easy to find. Many bounty hunters hold other jobs to supplement their business.
